Understanding Sukhmani Sahib - The Sorcerer's Stone to Peace

Sukhmani is a poetic composition by the fifth Nanak, Guru Arjan Sahib, in Raag Gauri. It is a popular among the Sikhs, and is commonly referred as "Sukhmani Sahib" out of respect. Sukhmani is the longest among the 'Titled' poetic compositions in Guru Granth Sahib. People have always been searching a philosopher's stone that can miraculously bring happiness in their lives. Guru Arjan explains through Sukhmani that the magic stone for happiness is not any physical stone, or some mantras to chant, rather it is the Divine Wisdom that which destroys the suffering inducted by the inner vice. That wisdom is Sukhmani which helps us to accept Hukam - Divine Will, and our mind gets absorbed in Divine Virtues in such a way that inner peace remains intact even in constantly changing outer circumstances. We cannot achieve that eternal peace by reading Sukhmani just for the sake of ritualistic reading/ritual. Peace/happiness comes by internalizing the message of Sukhmani.
